“Caring for myself is not self-indulgence, it is self-preservation, and that is an act of political warfare.” - Audre Lorde
Self care is the act of taking the time to care for your physical, psychological, emotional, and social well-being. Dedicating time to care for yourself is hard, especially when living in a capitalistic society that values and profits off of individuals’ productivity. Self care is a revolutionary act. We recognize and acknowledge the crucial role self care plays for survivors. It is not always easy. We are dedicating a night to practice self care.
We will have supplies to paint, draw, write, and the McMicken Freespace has a ton of books to read! We will be creating designs for buttons and stickers. We will provide size templates for buttons and stickers for you to create any art you feel describes support, worth, truth, strength, self-compassion, self-care and self-love.
We will use the art collected on Friday to make the stickers/buttons on Saturday at the Maker's Space. As soon as we have the final product, we'll get them back to you! We hope the buttons and stickers will serve as visible support and a reminder for self-care.
