There are more than 40 million victims of modern slavery today, working in electronics factories, shrimp peeling sheds, palm oil plantations, and poultry farms. They work without pay, sometimes in ultra-hazardous conditions, under threat of force in furtherance of global supply chains that span multiple borders and involve a multitude of companies producing the items we consume every day. Asia accounts for two-thirds of the total number of victims of modern slavery, and recent studies suggest the number of victims is rising.
